Townbrief Monitor
Townbrief Monitor Terms
1. The service
Townbrief Monitor is a research service about Massachusetts town government. It reads town meeting recordings, agendas, packets and minutes, joins them with state records, and sends your organization the developments that match its watches. Each alert carries the evidence behind it: the passage in the meeting recording with its time, and the meeting's documents.
Only items that have passed our automated check against the meeting record are sent as alerts.
2. Who may use it
A Monitor subscription is for the whole subscribing organization: its employees, and the outside advisers it works with on its own matters, such as its lawyers and consultants. The organization's owner adds and removes the people who use it. There is no per-seat charge.
3. What your subscription includes
- Search and analysis of the Monitor record.
- Sharing alerts inside your organization and with its outside advisers.
- Quoting Monitor findings with credit to Townbrief.
- Using findings in board, management and client reports.
- Keeping those reports and alerts in your organization's records.
4. What is priced separately
Reselling Monitor, republishing its feed, building it into a product or service, or giving its data to third parties requires a separate written license. Write to us and we will quote it.
5. Use limits
You may not use Monitor, its alerts or its workspace to copy the record in bulk, to build or improve a database, product or service that offers research, alerts or news on Massachusetts town government to others, or to train or tune an AI model.
Sharing with outside advisers is limited to advisers acting for your organization on its own matters.
Townbrief may limit, suspend or end an account that does any of this.
6. Coverage and the original record
Our coverage page states the towns, the record sources we receive for each, and how often each is updated. Coverage differs by town and board, and the page names the gaps.
Monitor points to the original public record. Your organization relies on the original record, not on Monitor's summary, for its decisions.
7. Fees and billing
The fee is the one on your order form: $299 a month for all of Massachusetts. We bill by invoice, monthly in advance. Access starts when we record payment of the first invoice and continues through each paid month.
Your subscription continues month to month. Either side may end it at the end of a paid month by written notice. Ending a Monitor subscription never affects anyone's personal Townbrief reader subscription.
8. Accounts
Each person signs in with their own email address. Keep sign-in links and access to your organization's workspace within the organization and its advisers. We may suspend access if an invoice is unpaid or the service is used outside these terms, and we will tell the owner why.
9. Liability
Townbrief's total liability for any claim relating to Monitor is limited to the fees your organization paid for Monitor in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Your data
We keep your organization's watches, members and delivery records to run the service, and we do not sell them. Our privacy policy at www.townbrief.com/privacy applies.
11. Changes
If we change these terms, the new version applies to new orders, and to existing subscriptions from the next paid month after we notify the owner. Each order records the version of the terms it was placed under.
